TORCA at the 2009 Rocky Mountain Regional Awards Banquet

It was "all TORCA" at the 2008 Regional Awards Dinner earlier this month, with its members dominating both the men’s and women’s divisions and with TORCA itself receiving the "Top Club of 2008" honors.

Throughout the year, Corvette clubs and individual club members earn championship points by participating in Corvette events sanctioned by the Rocky Mountain region car shows, autocrosses, rallyes, you name it. Individuals earn points every time they participate in an event, organize an event, or volunteer at an event. A club earns points whenever its members participate in an event run by a different Corvette club.

Each year for the past four years, the Rocky Mountain region has honored its points winners at a semi-formal banquet, featuring cocktails, an elegant dinner, and presentations of awards. It’s a chance to visit with old Corvette friends, remember the past year’s events, and honor those who have done well.

This year’s banquet was Saturday, March 7, at the Embassy Suites in Aurora. About 35 attended, half of whom were from TORCA. In attendance were the Schranzes, the Randels, the Konshaks, the Volks, all three Bauers, the Johnsons, Roger Miller, Kitty Divis, Barb Reynolds, and Randy Zornes. Curt Ingram, as the new Regional Competition Director, had the honor of presenting the awards to everyone.

Topping the men’s division was Roger Miller, followed by Warren Volk in second place. Randy Zornes earned fourth place, Ken Bauer took sixth place, Mathew McRobbie took eighth place, Mike Konshak, took ninth place, Don McCoy came in 11th, and Ron Bauer took 12th. John Harnagel, who joined TORCA this year, took 13th place.

The top six places in the women’s division were earned by TORCA members. Barb Reynolds earned first place, followed by Michele Volk, Kitty Divis, Becky Konshak, Cindy McCoy, and Jackie Bauer. Christy Geraci took 11th place.

Overall, TORCA placed first in the club competition, earning more than twice the number of points as the second-place club, Down the Road Corvettes. Elloise Morrison, Regional Membership Director, also acknowledged TORCA for having the most members in total and the most new members.

For the first time this year, the region also presented certificates to the people who earned the most number of points in each type of event. Barb Reynolds received certificates for both autocrosses and rallyes. Michele Volk received the certificate for car shows.

Congratulations to all who competed last year, and best of luck to everyone in 2009!
