Colorado West Corvette Club
Low Speed Autocross - August 12. 2007

Held the following day after the TORCA Peach Rallye, this was the perfect way to complete a weekend of Corvette only activities. There were 3 autocrosses scheduled in one day. The first was an NCCC nationally sanctioned event, and the other two were Rocky Mountain Region sanction events. CWCC only charges $25/driver for all three events, so this is the biggest points for the bucks bargain you can get for a low-speed autox, plus its an overnighter get-a-way. Fruita High School pulled a surprise on the host club, by putting in speed bumps on the parking lot, in advance of the coming school year. CWCC was still able to make a creative and fun course by making a figure 8, where the crossover was between bumps. What shade that was available had the particpants huddled underneath to eascape the 102 degree heat. We did have cloud cover for most of the day.

TORCA men and ladies were able to dominate many of the classes, however the best time of day fell to Michael M. who is a Nebraska NCCC member. Fortunately for many of us chasing points, his steller performance (beating our time by 0.2 seconds) does not affect the Rocky Mountain region points. Mike K barely sneaked under Roger and Ken's times to get the C5 Z06 traveling cap on the last event of the day.

While a few TORCA couples stayed another night in Fruita, Several members stopped in Palisades to buy peaches or wine. (it was the weekend of the TORCA Peach Rallye after all). Later, Vernon, Cheryl, Ralph, Mike, and Becky connected up in the little mountain town of Edwards (between Vail and Glenwood Springs) for fine dinner at the locally famous Gas House, which specializs in hand cut steakes and wild game fair along with the best darn 100% crab crab cakes you'll ever find ($13 per crab cake).
