Trip to Casper:

TORCA members Roger, Mike, Becky, Ralph, Carol, Cheryl and Vernon showed up for this overnight fun and autox and caravaned at least part of the way up and back to Casper. On the way up, Roger had us stop at the Shell station in Wheatland, Wy for a soft serve ice cream. We noticed the DtRC caravan pull into the Arby's across the street. Once into Casper we convened for Saturday happy hour (cold beer and appetizers were at Sanfords in downtown Casper), then the party moved to the local Steakhouse for supper. DtRC had a similar sized contingent, trailering sticky tires, for three cars. Most of us stayed at the Quality Inn.

Casper AutoX

This is the first autocross event that CWC put on by themselves, flying solo, without help from the other regional clubs. They bought some timing gear and set up a challenging course, which tested the short-term memory of all participants. Every competitor DNF'd at least once, some attributed that to the number of cones, other because the cones were green, instead og the familiar orange. In any case, this is what the sport of autocross is all about, as the course is the same for everyone, and it is is every competitors task to memorize the course before actually driving the course. CWC did a splendid job of keeping the event moving along, and only three re-runs occured, which is remarkable when learning new equipment and software. Some cones were removed and rearranged for the afternoon session, which lowered the number of DNF's and made the course slightly faster.
Tammy of DtRC got ladies OFTD in the morning and Becky took it in the afternoon. Roger got OFTD in the afternoon. Ralph and Carol's two C6 Z06's were in the shop, but drove their dealer rental up to Casper and particpicated by using Mike and Becky's C5 Z06 in the event. It hit 102 degrees that day so the temp gauge on the C5 was the highest its been with four competitors driving it around in 1st gear. Ralph and Carol were real sports, however, and their loyal efforts garnered more points for TORCA.

Return Trip:

On the way back, Mike had a craving for Godfather's pizza, which does not exist in Colorado anymore, but one is still in business in Cheyenne, near Warren AFB (East on the Central Drive Exit, north on Yellowstone, on right side across from Albertson's). Ralph and Carol joined Mike and Becky for the meal, then we all continued on homeward. We all made it home before dark.
