Vette/Viper Challenge Low-Speed Autocross
Keystone, Colorado

Over 30 Vettes-n-Vipers showed up for this annual challenge. Competition was spirited but friendly and the course, laid out by Pete U. of DCA, was exciting as well as technical because of the changing cambers and surfaces. One section of particularly slippery asphalt had the slalom positioned on it and was the cause for many cars being unable to turn even when the front wheels were pointed in a different direction (called a push).

The Corvettes of course, had all the fastest times. TORCA had a great showing in many classes with times improving by Ken and Jackie, Don and Cindy, Ed, Matt, Mike and Becky and Roger. TORCA's Becky K. had OFTD (overall Fastest Time of the Day) for the women in both morning and afternoon autocross sessions. DCA's Jared U. had OFTD for the men in the morning autocross, barely beating out TORCA's Mike K. (by .013 seconds). Since Jared was in Group 2, Mike won FTD in Group 1. Mike responded with OFTD in the 2nd session, and Jared had FTD in Group 2.

Mike invited his friend (and mountain neighbor) Jim H. to try his hand at autocross, and Jim won the Novice class in both sessions. The yellow Z06 was very busy with three drivers. There was great driving skills shown by all the clubs as everyone fought for precious seconds adding excitement during the day. DCA did a great job in scoring and with help from TORCA's Ken B. and Roger M.(the grid gods) the event finished cleanly with only two re-runs. Several TORCA members met for dinner afterwards.
