Funkhana (High Speed Games)
Mountain Tour
Keystone, Colorado

Eight Vettes were present on this Independance Day event. The Funkhana (also refered to by Pete U. as "High Speed Games") involved 4 Vette teams. The host club, DCA, comprised of the Urenda family and friends, worked the event to allow the other attendees to maximize their fun. Pete created some clever challenges, the most fun one being the tethered tennis ball, where the passenger had to reach out the window, grab and hold onto a ball attached to a string attached to a center pylon, while the driver performed a full 360 trip around the pylon. A set of nuts and bolts with different thread pitches made for a challenging test of manual dexterity for both driver and passenger, especially when it was discovered that one set used left-handed threads. The skill around the tossing the golf ball bolo's were probably the determining factor on who won the event.

1st - Roger (TORCA) and Barbara (DtRC)
2nd - Mike and Becky (TORCA)
3rd - Dale and Tammy (DtRC)
4th - Bill and John (DtRC)

On Thursday, there was a golf tournament challenge between a vette foursome and a Viper foursome. The Viper team won the $100 challenge prize. (this would be their only victory at this combined event that went from the 4th through the 7th)

On Friday the 6th, the entire entourage joined up for a trip from Keystone to Copper Mountainn, heading south to Leadville. After a relaxing walk around town and lunch, we headed toward Minturn, stopping along the way at the original 10th Mountain Division training facility site. Jared U. climbed a nearby rise to take a picture of the group. The tour drove over the absolutely beautiful Tennessee Pass on the way to Minturn and headed back to Keystone. That afternoon and evening, the group had a barbeque where all participants brought something from a local grocery store. DCA bought the steaks, which were complimented by TORCA's Roger M.'s famous margaritas. DtRC's Bill M. and John H. grilled the meat to perfection while other DtRC members attempted to ply TORCA competitors with drinks in hopes of a favorable advantage on the following day's Vette/Viper Challenge

The impromptu get-togethers by all the members of three NCCC clubs made this event a supremely enjoyable social occassion.
